Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)

The American Canyon Fire Protection District is working alongside local, county, and state partners to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) tailored specifically for American Canyon. This plan will help identify wildfire risks in our area and guide actions to reduce potential damage, improve preparedness, and strengthen community resilience. Together, we can make American Canyon safer and stronger against wildfire.

What is a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)?

A CWPP is a collaborative plan designed to reduce wildfire risk through community-driven solutions. It brings together residents, fire officials, local government, and partner agencies to identify hazards, prioritize actions, and secure funding for wildfire mitigation projects.

The goal is to protect lives, property, and natural resources by improving our understanding of wildfire behavior, supporting defensible space efforts, and expanding public education on wildfire preparedness.

The American Canyon CWPP is a joint effort between the American Canyon Fire Protection District, City of American Canyon, Napa County Firewise, and community stakeholders.

The CWPP Will Help Us:

  • Enhance Understanding: Assess current environmental and wildfire conditions in and around American Canyon.
  • Identify Hazards: Map high-risk areas and evaluate potential fire behavior under local conditions.
  • Foster Engagement: Create opportunities for residents to get involved through meetings, surveys, and community programs.
  • Protect Communities: Focus on vulnerable areas, key infrastructure, and wildland-urban interface zones.
  • Develop Strategies: Prioritize effective actions to reduce fire risk and improve emergency preparedness.

Submit a Project Idea

A CWPP Project is any community activity that:

  • Reduces structure ignitability
  • Increases public education about wildfire
  • Reduces hazardous vegetation (fuels)

If you have a project idea — from neighborhood defensible space programs to vegetation management or community outreach — we want to hear from you!
